Below I have compiled a list of some recommended gear that I have used personally and I believe to be good products. All the links are for Amazon for which I earn a small commission unless otherwise stated in the notes below.
D’Addario Cleaner & Conditioner

This cleaner is my favourite, just use a small amount in between each fret and rub in with a paper towel or soft cloth and it keeps the fretboard in great condition. I use this every time I change strings
Ernie Ball Super Slinky Strings

Out of all the strings I’ve tried, I prefer Earnie Ball Slinky. They feel so good. Currently I prefer 9’s for general playing.
In the past I have also tried and liked Skinny top, Heavy Bottoms. I used to gig with these they have thicker gauge lower strings for good chunky rhythm and lighter gauge top strings for solos
If you like drop tuning for heavy rock/metal then I would try beefy slinky strings, the really thick strings help keep the string tight when de-tuned and makes the guitar rattle less.
Positive Grid Spark Go Smart Guitar Amp

I really wish I had one of these when I started out, they are not really sold as beginner amps but they should be. They are loud enough to be heard in a room without being too loud to annoy the neighbours. It’s controlled from your mobile with lots of potential tones, but even the four default settings it starts with sound good. See my blog article for a more in depth look.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB Audio Interface

If you want to interface your guitar (or bass or microphone) into your PC or MAC so that you can play through your computer using an amp sim or record using a DAW, this is what I recommend to use. I have a previous generation Scarlett 2i2 that I’ve had for about 6 years now. Unless I wanted more inputs to record a live drum kit, I don’t think I’ll change it any time soon.
Focusrite Scarlett Solo USB Audio Interface

This is the single channel version of the Scarlett 2i2, otherwise it’s practically the same. Choose this over the 2i2 if you are limited by budget.
CruzTools GrooveTech Compact Stagehand Kit

This kit has nearly everything you need to set up your guitar and keep it in tip top condition. Amazon do not sell this toolkit as far as I can see, however Gear4Music does in the UK. I do not earn any commission from this link.
